DAF Day Is October 8: Put Your Charitable Dollars to Work Feeding Michigan Families

Thursday, October 8, is DAF Day — a national giving day dedicated to helping people put the charitable dollars already set aside in donor-advised funds to work for the causes they care about.

For supporters of Michigan Sportsmen Against Hunger, it is also an opportunity to turn those charitable dollars into something very tangible: locally donated deer, processed by Michigan businesses, and nutritious ground venison delivered to food pantries and families in communities across our state.

What Is a Donor-Advised Fund?

A donor-advised fund, or DAF, is a charitable giving account typically administered by an organization such as Fidelity Charitable, Schwab Charitable, a community foundation, or another DAF sponsor.

Donors contribute money or other assets to the account and can then recommend grants from those funds to eligible nonprofit organizations over time.

If you already have a DAF, that means you may already have charitable dollars set aside and ready to support organizations important to you.

What Is DAF Day?

DAF Day is a national giving day held each year on the second Thursday in October. It brings together donors, nonprofits, and donor-advised fund providers to encourage people to put charitable funds into action.

In 2026, DAF Day falls on Thursday, October 8.

Michigan Sportsmen Against Hunger is participating because donor-advised funds can be an important source of support for our mission — especially as we work to expand the number of donated deer we can process and distribute across Michigan.

What Does a DAF Gift to MSAH Support?

Hunters generously donate deer to Michigan Sportsmen Against Hunger, but turning that deer into food isn’t free.

Participating wild game processors professionally prepare and package donated deer into ground venison. Financial contributions help MSAH reimburse those processors so hunters can donate whole deer at no cost.

The result is a simple local connection:

Michigan hunters donate the deer. Michigan processors prepare the venison. Local food pantries distribute it. Michigan families receive the meals.

A whole donated deer can provide more than 140 meals, making financial support an important part of turning a successful hunt into food for our neighbors.

Already Have Money in a DAF? Put It to Work.

DAF Day isn’t about asking people to create another account or find another way to spend money.

For many donors, those charitable dollars have already been set aside for giving.

October 8 is a good reminder to decide where you want those dollars to make a difference.

A grant to Michigan Sportsmen Against Hunger helps take a renewable Michigan resource and put it directly into the hands of local organizations feeding our neighbors.

This DAF Day, put your charitable dollars to work right here in Michigan.
