Recognizing Dedicated Service: Thank You to Dean Hall and Louie Krick

Michigan Sportsmen Against Hunger is built on volunteer service.

For more than three decades, MSAH has helped connect generous hunters with families in need by supporting the donation, processing, and distribution of venison and other wild game to food banks and charitable feeding programs throughout Michigan.

That work does not happen on its own. It depends on hunters who donate, processors who participate, food pantries that serve their communities, donors who support the mission, and volunteers who are willing to give their time and leadership behind the scenes.

Each year, MSAH takes time to recognize individuals who have donated their time, experience, and leadership to the organization and have recently stepped away from board service.

This year, we are proud to recognize Dean Hall and Louie Krick.

Dean Hall

Dean Hall has served Michigan Sportsmen Against Hunger in several important roles over the years, including Executive Director, Processor Coordinator, and Treasurer.

In each of those roles, Dean helped keep the organization moving forward. As Executive Director, he provided steady leadership through both challenges and opportunities, helping guide the organization while keeping the mission focused on hunters, processors, food banks, and families in need.

As Processor Coordinator, Dean played a critical role in one of the most important parts of the MSAH mission: maintaining relationships with participating processors and helping ensure donated deer could be turned into nutritious food for people across Michigan.

As Treasurer, Dean helped provide the financial stewardship and attention to detail needed to keep the organization stable and accountable. His willingness to serve in multiple roles made him an important part of MSAH’s continuity and long-term success.

Dean also represented MSAH at meetings, events, and conversations with government agencies, conservation partners, processors, and allied organizations. His professionalism, knowledge, and steady commitment helped strengthen relationships and advance the work of MSAH throughout the state.

His service has left a lasting mark on the organization.

Louie Krick

Louie Krick holds a special place in the history of Michigan Sportsmen Against Hunger as the organization’s first President.

His leadership helped establish the foundation that MSAH continues to build on today. During the early years of the organization, Louie’s determination, service, and willingness to step forward helped shape MSAH into a lasting effort that continues to serve Michigan families.

In addition to serving as President, Louie also gave his time and experience as Recording Secretary and in several other leadership roles. He consistently contributed where help was needed, offering his perspective, institutional knowledge, and commitment to the mission.

Louie’s work helped create a culture of service, cooperation, and responsibility that remains central to MSAH today. His leadership helped ensure that the organization could grow beyond an idea and become a meaningful connection between Michigan’s outdoor community and families facing hunger.

His service helped lay the groundwork for the impact MSAH continues to have across the state.

Thank You

Organizations like MSAH are built by people who choose to serve.

Dean Hall and Louie Krick are examples of that spirit. Their leadership, dedication, and years of volunteer service helped strengthen Michigan Sportsmen Against Hunger and support our mission of connecting hunters, processors, food banks, and families in need.

On behalf of the Michigan Sportsmen Against Hunger Board of Directors, we sincerely thank Dean and Louie for their many contributions.

Their work has made a lasting difference, and their service will continue to be part of MSAH’s story for years to come.

Carrying the Mission Forward

The best way to honor the service of people like Dean and Louie is to keep building on the foundation they helped create.

MSAH continues to need people who care about Michigan’s outdoor traditions, responsible use of harvested game, conservation, and helping families facing hunger. As we look to the future, we are working to expand our reach, strengthen our partnerships, recruit more volunteers, and increase public awareness of the impact donated game can have in communities across Michigan.

There are many ways to help.

Volunteers are needed to support board leadership, communications, social media, fundraising, donor outreach, event planning, processor coordination, hunter engagement, and community partnerships. MSAH also needs help writing news articles and success stories, sharing our mission with local clubs and organizations, and introducing us to people who may want to support the cause.

One of the most valuable ways you can assist MSAH is by helping us connect with other outdoor, conservation, hunting, fishing, wildlife, civic, church, business, and community service organizations.

If you belong to a local sportsmen’s club, conservation organization, outdoor recreation group, food pantry, church, civic group, or community organization, an introduction can make a real difference. Partnerships help us share information, promote our programs, recruit volunteers, identify processors, reach more hunters, and provide more meals to Michigan families in need.

You do not need to be a board member to make a difference. A single introduction, a few volunteer hours, a shared story, or help connecting MSAH with a local organization can strengthen our ability to serve communities across Michigan.

Every partnership, volunteer hour, donation, and introduction helps MSAH continue its mission of turning the generosity of Michigan’s hunters into nutritious meals for families facing hunger.

If you believe in this mission, we invite you to get involved.
